Mechanical Keyboard Switches for Typing & Gaming at Keebz N Cables

The sound and feel of your keyboard begins and ends with the switches, so why settle for standard? At Keebz N Cables, we offer a curated selection of the best mechanical keyboard switches in Australia. Whether you are chasing the deepest “thock”, clack or lightning fast actuation, our range is hand-picked for quality and not just the generic Red, Blue and Brown switches.

In addition to the switch itself, choice of keyboard plate material and use of foam within the keyboard case are contributing factors to the sound. For a thocky and marbly sound signature, it is almost always recommended to use PE Foam PCB switch pads.

Linear, tactile or clicky: finding your signature feel

The soul of your keyboard build is the sensory experience. Whether you're chasing a smooth, rapid glide for gaming or a crisp, satisfying response for high-volume typing, choosing the right switch type is essential:

    • Linear — Favoured by gamers and typists alike for their smooth, uninterrupted travel from top to bottom.
    • Tactile — Features a distinct "bump" for physical feedback without an audible click. Tactiles are a Keebz N Cables favourite of the bunch.
    • Clicky — Delivers both a tactile bump and a sharp, audible click on every keystroke.

Once you've chosen your switches, pair them with our premium keycaps or browse our accessories to complete the build.

    FAQs

Linear switches offer a smooth, consistent stroke and are often chosen as the best mechanical keyboard switches for typing and gaming. Tactile switches have a noticeable bump for physical feedback, which is great for typing accuracy, as the bump prevents misfires compared to linears; while clicky switches add an audible “click” to that tactile feel.

The difference lies in the housing base. 3-pin switches (plate-mount) have two metal contact pins and a central plastic pin. 5-pin switches (PCB-mount) include two additional plastic side pins for extra stability. Most 5-pin key switches can be modified to fit 3-pin boards by clipping the extra plastic legs.

Lubing reduces friction and scratchiness, creating a smoother feel and deeper sound. While optional, adding lube is one of the best ways to achieve a premium, custom typing experience.

But if you’re short on time, with recent developments in factory lubing, most switches on the market are perfectly usable out of the box with no modifications.
